Canada Cricket Team’s Tour to Nepal Farewell Event

Introduction

NRNA Canada facilitated the formal program in partnership with the Nepalese Community Network of Canada, Laliguras Sports & Cultural Club, Nepalese People’s Coordination Committee, NCCACC – Nepal House, Canada-Nepal Friendship and Cultural Society, Toronto Nepalese Sports Club, Federation of Canada Nepal Chamber of Commerce, Chitwan Society Canada, Nepalese Canadian Heritage Centre, Canadian Newah Guthi and Overseas Nepalese Forum. Mr. Kiroj Shrestha, VP of NRNA Canada, chaired the program, which was MCed by Pratik Bhandary, NRNA Canada’s youth coordinator. Ms. Chandra Adhikari, general secretary of NRNA Canada, delivered the welcome speech.

Program Intent

The program intended to officially bid farewell to the Canadian national cricket team and make them feel welcome for their upcoming international tour to Nepal. It also aimed to strengthen the ties between the two countries, with the presence of some prominent figures in local politics, including MP Maninder Singh and officials of the Canadian Cricket Council.

Program Schedule

The MC, Mr. Pratik Bhandary, started the program. The national anthems of Nepal and Canada were played, and everyone stood up in respect of the anthem. This was followed by the welcome speech by Chanda Adhikari, the General Secretary, who offered a formal introduction and provided an overview of the program’s objective.
The first half of the program was a series of speeches addressing the main topic of the program by all the organizations mentioned above’s representatives and prominent figures of the Nepalese community present at the venue. After the program, Newa-Guthi entertained the guests with the Dhime dance and Lakhe dance, which was well received by the audience with lots of enthusiasm. Acting Ambassador to Canada, Rojina Tamrakar, delivered her speech representing Nepal and all the Nepalese communities
and organizations.
After that, we had a few speeches from the Head Coach, Pubudu Dassanayake, and Saad Bin Zafar, the Team Captain, and a birthday celebration of one of the team members on stage.
Kiroj Shrestha concluded the program with his closing remarks, followed by Topi and Khada’s program to all the prominent figures representing the Canadian National Cricket Team on stage.

Program Impact
The program was well received by everyone present, and the intent of the program was well met. The Canadian National Cricket team expressed a feeling of gratitude and acceptance. The Head coach and the officials from the Canadian Cricket Council thanked the organizers for putting the program together and for the warm hospitality presented by the Nepalese community.
